I remember years ago when I was just a little girl, Doug let my Dad and my brother and I fish at a little stocked pond somewhere. Doug always will have a special place in my heart. He didn’t speak much and when he did, you’de swear it was his own language, haha. But I grew to just love his personality. He was always friendly and really good to my family and me, especially. I was thinking of him today, and as I drive passed his old place, I often reminisce of his little quirks and things that had to be just so- his way or no way. He was a good fella, and I miss him dearly. What a kind heart he had, even if it was protected by his rough, thick skin. I miss him. And I loved him like family.

Thank you for sharing this story, it is so spot on his personality. My dad and Doug spent a lot of time together, and I remember him always like this, too. He truly was a lovely person.

Uncle Doug wasn’t a guy who had an outgoing, smiley demeanour, but I always remember him as being soft-spoken and gentle with us kids. I remember a family camping trip to Banff area with Uncle Doug... probably in the late 70’s or early 80’s... and he was lots of fun! I remember him joking and laughing, and he and the brothers kept calling each other “Rule” as I remember! Whatever that was about, everybody was having fun with it! Uncle Doug was a “fixture” at the Edgerton farmhouse. He was just steady and always there, and I always felt like he liked us kids and having us around when we would visit. In recent visits, he was talkative! When he found out that Justine was wanting to enter the military, he was telling us stories and showing us memorabilia from Grandpa Garnet. We were very happy we had visited and we planned to go back upon our next trip to Edgerton area. We are sad that won’t be happening. We will have to visit his peaceful grave with Grandma Gladys and Grandpa Garnet. Rest In Peace, Uncle Doug.

Rest In Peace, to my cousin, Doug. Doug was always quiet but kind. I remember our Family Gatherings with the McGillivray Families fondly. I remember borrowing his rubber boots when Pat and I were going to try rafting in the knolls in the fields when we were young girls. Needless to say, the rafts didn’t work and I filled his boots with water and he didn’t get upset. My hearts go out to all his siblings and Families, Pat & Glenn, Don and Judy, Ben and Kim. I’m so glad that I had a good visit with him at the Edgerton Centennial Festivities.
