Brian was an exceptional man and boss. I worked for him as his assistant at HQ. He introduced me to Michael Buble, and I think of Brian often when I hear a Buble song. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

Although I haven't seen my cousin Brian for over twenty-five years, I will always remember and treasure the time we met in Massachusetts for Uncle Joe's funeral. I am grateful to have been able to "attend" this beautiful service and meet Brian's wonderful family.

I was very saddened to hear about Brian's passing from Covid-19. I didn't know Brian well, but what I do remember of him is light and kindness. He supported Janis' soccer, which I was happy about, as she was such a positive light on our team.
Janis, Chloe and Geordie, my heart goes out to you. Thinking of you all during this very difficult time.

Remembering my Brother.
It is its great sorrow that I write this post. I lost my little brother this month to Covid-19 and its complications. It was surreal to get the call that he had caught the virus and then over a month later to be told he was no longer with us. One of my favorite memories of him as a little boy was my first day of school. I could not wait to get home from school at lunch time to see him and when I came through the door, we ran into each others arms and gave each other a great big hug! We were on the journey of life together, we had our different paths in life, his, the military, mine the pharmaceutical business, but we always talked to each other and enjoyed each other’s company throughout out life. I remember the excitement we had for our Alberta adventure when we moved from Nova Scotia to Alberta. As we drove across Canada, we continually sang Ian Tyson’s song Alberta Bound. By the time we got to Calgary we knew all the words. After I left home for University, most of our time together was in family visits and vacations, as we did not spend many years in adulthood living in the same city at the same time. Brothers are special and my relationship with Brian was extra special. We had dreams that we could spend more time together in retirement, but that will not be the case as Covid-19 took him way to soon. Please remember Brian who was a great bother, husband and father. From his ever-loving brother. Scott ❤️❤️❤️

On behalf of the Canadian Forces Housing Agency please accept our heartfelt sympathies. I always loved meeting up with Brian with his great big smile and passion for making the housing better for those that serve. Over the years, several Sr Commanders let me know how much they liked the work done on the housing and the great team in Wainwright. Brian will be sadly missed in our Agency, but we know that he will be looking over us and checking up on our housing.

Throughout our lives together there have been years when Brian and were more than brothers, we were best fiends. I can also say the same thing about Scott. One of my most cherished memories is when we were living in Calgary and Brian was still in high school. I had become a Christian a few years earlier and in high school Brian went through the same spiritual transformation and I was able help guide him through it. In spite of the sorrow I feel with his passing I am absolutely certain where he is today and that soon enough we will be together again.

Sending love to the Nelsons! Brian thank you for constantly helping to move Chloe a million times, without your support I am not sure we would have succeeded. There was one time I remember specifically. Both Brain and my own father are very out spoken organized people and raised two daughters to be the same. When they showed up to help us move houses between second and third year he looked at us with that proud father smiles and said something along the lines of "well girls I don't think you really need our help you are ready to go, but should we get started". I know for both Chole and myself it felt like a win! Rest in Peace. With love, Erin

I have worked with Brian since his arrival in 2006 when he arrived as the Operations Officer and I was the Base Commander's Executive Assistant. Brian always had a vision and strong beliefs no matter which position he filled being the Operations Officer, Range and Training Area Management Officer or the Manager at Canadian Forces Housing Agency.
Brian was always passionate about green space, walking trails, tree planting or anything that could beautify the town, Garrison or Residential Housing Area.
When I started at CFHA in September 2014, one of the first things that needed to be implemented was to have birthday cake for each individual in our building. Brian and my birthday are two days a part, but he never thought we should share a cake as he loved getting together as a building and enjoyed cake! Team Building in our office always consisted of either breakfast or lunch, he enjoyed gathering with his staff over a good meal or latte from Jack's Place.
I will remember Brian for his dedication to his family, church and the Department of National Defence.
Today and always, may loving memories bring you peace, comfort and strength.
Keeping you in our prayers.

I have many wonderful memories of Brian in 1984 as the Bestman at our wedding. Brian was always enthusiastic about everything and talked while smiling. He loved the Ĺord deeply. I remember that he and his brother David would debate for hours while sitting around the table after a dinner. I remember him meeting Janis and how deeply in love he was with her. He had a gentleness to him that was lovely. I had the privilege of bumping into the family at a restaurant last year while they were in Kelowna. He had not changed! I am grateful that my children have got to know him and Janis and their children. He was a truly kind and loving man and I mourn that he is no longer here. Jennifer Barnes

We are so saddened to learn of Brian's passing, & are sharing in your sorrow. .Thinking of all of you at this sad & difficult time! Our family was very fond of Brian! He was such a warm, caring person, always smiling. When he was much younger, & a plane flew overhead, Brian would always tell us what kind of plane it was by the sound of it's engine. We always knew he was destined to be in the Military. He was very intelligent & special. It is of no surprise to us that he rose to the rank of Major! A young man taken much too soon.
Sending much love, Aunt Beverly, Uncle Johnny & Family-- Valley , Nova Scotia

I am so very sorry for your loss. Brian brightened every room he was in. He was generous with his time, and would go out of his way to offer information and assistance to his colleagues (like me) when he thought he could help out with a problem, and enjoyed learning what others were doing. He had such a great mind for innovation and improvement. What I think of first about Brian though, is how he could be relied upon for a smile and laugh, no matter how serious the issue and discussion. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences to Janis, Geordie, and Chloe. I had the pleasure of working with Brian at CFHA Wainwright since 2013. He was passionate, driven, and committed in everything he did. I will never forget his deep love of all things landscaping and outdoor beautification. I will always think of him whenever a tree is planted. He was a supportive manager who reminded me often that family is first. Brian loved a sunny day, a strong cup of coffee, a good piece of pie, the right cinnamon bun, big, loyal dogs and a good pen. He will be missed, gone far too soon.

My experience working with Brian was his passion for what he did at CFHA. I had numerous opportunities to learn from Brian and share our knowledge and experiences from Ottawa to Wainwright. He wasn’t one to glide along, he wanted to make change to the community he was responsible for and went above and beyond taking responsibility, tackling infrastructure issues, health and safety issues, customer service issues, he was a man that took on anything and did it well. His landscaping and gardening eye are highly regarded by his work improving the curb appeal of the community at CFHA wainwright. Chris Wagner

He was a well respected, efficient officer and civilian team member. I was shocked to learn of his passing at such a young age, and offer my sincerest condolences to his family and co-workers at CFHA. He was definitely a large part of the Wainwright community and he will be sorely missed. John Page.

Brian was my travelling buddy for many of our conferences travelling out of Edmonton. We had many discussions from our family to our ideas for our organization. Brian always made time for guidance and ensured his peers knew he was always there for us. I will miss the laughs and the smile when we met up and we would laugh that I made it to the airport as we always seemed to have a snow storm. My prayers are with his family during this time. We are all having that sweet treat in your honour.

My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Nelson family at Brian’s passing. He was the course officer during my basic training with the Calgary Highlanders back in 1986/87, and we later conversed off-and-on while he was still serving in the military. Brian was an outstanding person and clearly lived his life according to his faith, showing his kindness, grace, and good nature to everyone around him. He will be sorely missed, and will certainly be remembered by those of us who had the great pleasure of knowing and working with him. Rest in peace, my friend.
