Obituary of Sharon Anne Britney

It is with heavy hearts that the Britney family announces the passing of Sharon Anne Britney on July 2, 2021. Sharon passed quietly at home after a life filled with family, community and church. Born in Wainwright in 1943, the 3rd child of Edwin and Dorothy Britney, Sharon loved learning, reading and family. Her card playing skills and quick wit were well respected and shown off at every family reunion. Her interest in genealogy introduced her to the Mormon Church and she found friends and a comfort with the community of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wainwright. She found an outlet for her cleverness with genealogy research and differentiated her career paths to embrace her passion for people and the community. After working for various financial institutions in the Wainwright area for many years, then being a private bookkeeper, Sharon pivoted to child advocacy, working with the RCMP on the Restorative Justice Committee. She “married” her love of people and relationships by becoming a wedding commissioner later in life, officiating several family weddings as well as many other happy couples’ in Wainwright and the surrounding areas. She made her TV debut as the officiant on the reality show, “The Week the Women Went” in 2008. Making people happy and being part of people’s special moments was a highlight of Sharon’s career and she spoke with great passion and fondness for “her” couples and weddings. Her door was always open for a chat over coffee and she was a great listener/advice giver. Survived by two brothers and one sister, along with a vast extended family and her beloved dog Taz, Sharon will be greatly missed. She was proud to be part of the Wainwright community. She touched many lives and will live on in our memories and through the impact she made on the world. To honour Sharon’s request, there will be no service. The family suggests a donation made in Sharon’s name to your local dog rescue society, Diabetes Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
