Doreen Pollom

Obituary of Doreen Pollom

On Thursday, December 22, 2022, with her husband Stanlie at her side and surrounded by family, Mrs. Doreen Pollom of Wainwright, Alberta, passed peacefully, from this world to the next, after a short illness at the age of 85 years. Until her last breath, Doreen was a woman of strong conviction and simple faith. She loved her husband and her family and took pride in a well-kept home and being a good wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Doreen enjoyed playing cards and games, camping and extended trips in the motorhome with Stanlie, and family gatherings, especially the Bowden reunions. Never afraid of hard work or a challenge, she was an avid volunteer and lifelong learner; giving freely of her time to many causes and organizations and learning to drive in her 30's, swim in her 40's and to use an iPad in her 70's. Doreen was a strong woman who could be counted on to be steadfast in times of challenge and someone with the ability to get things done. Doreen was born in Lucky Lake and raised in the Meadow Lake, Matchee, Prendergast, Neeb and Highgate areas of Saskatchewan. She lived in Lloydminster, AB, Victoria, BC, and Whitehorse, YT before moving to Wainwright and marrying Stanlie in 1962, where they started their family. Work moved the family a few more times across Alberta, including Manville, Lloydminster, Swan Hills, and Whitecourt before settling in Grande Cache, for more than 25 years. After retirement, Stanlie and Doreen returned to the prairies, first living in Derwent and then settling in Wainwright. Doreen is survived by her loving family, her husband of 60 years, Stanlie Pollom of Wainwright; her children, Debbie (George) Pattison of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Jason (Alana) Pollom of Lloydminster, Alberta, Rachelle (Billy) McDonald of Grande Cache, Alberta; grandchildren, Jessica (Ian), Kristin, Adrina (Dustin), Shane, Alyssa (Thamer), Aaron, Hannah, Gabriel; great grandchildren, Alex, Kade, Finn, Cecelia, Kaylin, Benson, and Abdelmohdi; siblings Sylvia Boddy and Melvin Bowden; as well as nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. She is predeceased by her parents, Ellen (nee Dallas) and Reginald Bowden; daughter, Rachel; siblings, Peggy Gallinger, Ron Bowden, Winnie Gall, Betty Joy, and Denny Bowden, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. A family gathering to inter her ashes and celebration of life for family and friends will be held later in 2023 in Wainwright, Alberta. Doreen's wishes were to be laid rest with her daughter Rachel, whom she lost in infancy. Two hearts have been reunited. "Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love." St. Mother Teresa. Mom blessed us all with many small acts of love and we are forever grateful.
