Obituary of Wilfred Baier

On Friday, July 21, 2023, Mr. Wilfred Baier of Wainwright, Alberta, passed away at Wainwright Long Term Care, at the age of 90 years.  

Wilfred had many jobs starting at a young age. Besides helping out on the family farm, he unloaded box cars, worked as a ranch hand for many neighbours, enjoyed custom combining, installed the first telephone lines in the surrounding area and drove school bus for Altario School.  He took pride in his cattle, the fruit trees, his garden and acres of potatoes and saskatoon berries.   Family was the most important thing in his life including being a grandpa and great grandpa.   Card nights with his family, little fishing trips and enjoying good food were always a highlight.  Once retiring to Wainwright, he was very active; floor curling, playing bingo, card nights with friends, and attending church services.
Wilfred will always be in our hearts.

Wilfred is survived by his loving family; his wife of 69 years, Lily Baier of Wainwright, Alberta; daughters, Lorelei (Gerard) Gamroth of Ardrossan, Alberta, Glenda (Dale) Kosolowsky of Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren, Andrea (Todd) Scaplen of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Matthew (Emily Donpierre) Gamroth of Edmonton, Alberta; great grandchild, Avery Scaplen; siblings, Lorraine Gramlich, Elsie Frayn, Melvin (Audrey) Baier, Donna (Keith) MacLean, Darlene Weinkauf; sisters in-law , Martha Neigum, Doris (Len) Heck, Linda Heck, Rita Loades, Grace Gramlich; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.  

He is predeceased by his parents, Katherine & Constantine Baier; stepmother, Elizabeth Gramlich; son, Daryl Baier; sister Hilda Gramlich; brothers in-law, George Gramlich, Leo Gramlich, Bob Frayn, John Weinkauf; Herman (Genevieve) Gramlich, Chris (Joyce) Gramlich, Sam Neigum, William Gramlich, Dennis Heck and Harold Loades.  

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 28, 2023, from the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Wainwright, Alberta at 2:00 PM  

Interment will take place Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Altario, Alberta at 12:00 PM 

If so desired, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wainwright and District Health Foundation or to the charity of choice.
