Obituary of Mabel Anne "Mickey" Smith

Mabel Anne "Mickey" Smith was born August 11, 1919 in St. John, New Brunswick to Archie and Charlotte McDonald. Mickey grew up alongside six brothers and one sister; she is the last surviving McDonald. Mickey met James "Jim" Henry Smith in Toronto and they were married in 1943 in the United Church. They moved to Edmonton after the war and to Wainwright in 1949. She was a helpmate to Jim, working by his side in Smith's Shoe Store until their retirement in 1973. Mickey was a past President of the Ladies Auxilliary and a Life Member. J.L. Meier wrote about Mickey saying, "Mickey had many friends and was a true and loyal friend to all. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her." Mickey passed away at 97 years of age, at Wainwright Hospital - Long Term Care on January 1, 2017. Her surviving family include many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jim on August 23, 1992 and all of her siblings. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at Royal Canadian Legion, Wainwright, Alberta with interment to follow at Wainwright Cemetery.
