Obituary of Laura McKinnon

On Thursday August 13, 2020 Laura Mae McKinnon of Sherwood Park, Alberta passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 61 surrounded by family and friends. Laura was born on January 17, 1959 in Edmonton. She was raised in Wainwright with both sets of grandparents, many aunts and uncles and her close-knit family nearby. Laura attained her Painting & Decorating journeyman ticket at NAIT in Edmonton while working at CFB Wainwright. She later moved to Vermilion and worked as the maintenance painter at Lakeland College for several years. During this time, Laura met Jeff McKinnon and they married in 1995. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary earlier this summer in July. Laura, Jeff and their two boys moved to Sherwood Park in 1998. Laura continued her painting and decorating career on her own as a contractor until she retired. Laura is survived by her loving husband, Jeff, her children Tyler (Elisha) McKinnon of Lethbridge, Alberta and Braedon McKinnon of Sherwood Park, Alberta, and her beloved grandchildren Jase and Hailey. She also leaves to cherish her memory her father Reginald Lissimore of Wainwright, Alberta, her sister Arlene (Brian) Artindale of Wainwright, Alberta, her brothers Tom (Anita) Lissimore of Jasper, Alberta, Bill (Audrey) Lissimore of St. Albert, Alberta and Mark Lissimore of Edmonton, Alberta and many nephews and nieces. Laura was predeceased by her mother Jessie. Laura was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a genuine person who was treasured by those that knew her best. Her kind and caring nature shone through always. The love she showed for family and friends will not be forgotten. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Wainwright Cemetery.
