A visit to Canada while I was growing up was never complete without a trip to Auntie Eleanor's farm. Whether it was picking fresh peas from the garden or riding the horses or helping Alf rid the farm of gophers, there was always an adventure to be had. Some of the adventures were a bit more than we asked for, like the time I fell through the hay loft or when Pal took off with Maureen not quite in the stirrups. Like my mom Alvina, she loved sewing, cribbage, and all kinds of other card games, and was as frugal as could be. She was one of the sweetest human beings I have ever known, and she will be missed. Much love to Alf and Elaine and all the family.

Our deepest condolences on the passing of Eleanor, to Alf and Deb and Elaine and Bruce. The graveside celebration was beautiful! At her request, her ashes were buried in her favorite sewing box. It was so fitting for a lady who's passion was sewing. She will be in our hearts forever. May she rest in peace. Jan and Pat Keller (sister)

tribute notes for Mom Eleanor by her daughter, Elaine Abbott
Here are five points that I would like to offer about my mother, Eleanor Abbott.
Her:
1. happy times - she said were when she was sewing, travelling and with family. She travelled many places with us, including New Zealand and Europe. She also visited us at our homes in Edmonton, Cadomin and Ladysmith, on Vancouver Island. Recently she told me about some of her happy childhood games with her siblings. They played a 'livestock corral' game, using old rusty nails for fence posts and bits of binder twine for fencing. In the absence of toy animals, Grandpa's shoes became the horses. She said she pretended that she was painting her parent's farm house using water. These play time games became real life experiences when, as an adult, she helped with designing livestock corrals and with many house painting projects.
2. work - Mom Eleanor said she liked work and accomplishing things, which she did well! She was a fantastic seamstress, gardener, cook, baker and focused her life on agriculture. She taught us the value of a strong work ethic which came straight from her creative, dignified and inspirational character.
3. education - She had the know-how to tackle anything and was a 'jack of all trades'. Although she dreamed of completing high school, she was self-educated well beyond that. She taught herself to be a veterinarian, tailor, upholsterer, horticulturist, carpenter, plumber, electrician and dry wall finisher. She added an entire addition onto the farm house, helped with many renovations for her children and others, built livestock corrals and animal shelters, and repaired grain bins. She was very well known and appreciated by the community, as well as her family, for her custom sewing, mending and alterations, ranging from wedding dresses to tractor seat covers.
4. frugality - Mom Eleanor possessed incredible qualities of being adaptable to various situations. Growing up during the depression and working in agriculture, she knew how to make do with very little in lean times.
5. generosity - Mom Eleanor was empathetic, feeling the emotions of others easily. She was generous to a fault with all of her resources. She would do without and then give to others of her time, skills and encouragement.
Mom Eleanor will always live in our hearts and be remembered for the wonderful mother that she was.
Thank you for all of your thoughts.

A fantastic seamstress who became a friend. We always had a great visit when I dropped off an alteration. In no time at all I’d get a call…”Bernie your stitching is done.” Once again we’d have a great visit. Loved this lady!❤️

My sincerest sympathy to all of you. Eleanor came into our life when she was asked to alter a dress for my daughter who was to be a junior bridesmaid in my nephews wedding. She had already gone 2-3 times so was getting to be old business for her. I dropped her off one day and about 20 minutes later I got a call from your mom You better come quick your girl has passed out a fell off the stool. I think she’s ok but you better come right away. So I went quickly not only was your Mom standing over her but your Dad too both very concerned. From that day on whenever we would see each other we would have a good visit. I will miss seeing her around
